Our physicians are both active clinical practitioners and teachers at Canada's respected schools of medicine. Gerhard Emil Meinzer
Chairman of the Board

Gerry Meinzer joined the Board of Comprehensive Care International in 2006. He is President of PMP, a merchant bank specializing in high technology, and also President of Emeritus of Smart Toronto Inc., a private sector initiative to promote the Greater Toronto Area as the technology capital of Canada.

Prior to this, Mr. Meinzer was President of The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Toronto (1992-93) and President and CEO of Real Time Datapro, a data processing and computer services that became one of the largest Canadian computer service company in the general insurance market, following an amalgamation with Memotec Data Inc. in 1985 as an integral part of the acquisition drive for Teleglobe Canada.

Mr. Meinzer is a Junior Chamber International Senator, Chairman of Rydium Inc., a Director of PCI Geomatics Inc. and idAlarm Inc., and a member of the Advisory Board of RoyNat Capital (Scotia Bank). Mr. Meinzer also chaired the initiative to form the Greater Toronto Airports Authority and served as a director for 12 years.

Throughout his career he has served as the National President of the German-Canadian Congress; President of the Information Technology Association Canada (1974-75 and 1979-81); Chairman of the World Computing Service Industry Congress V (1986); Chairman of the Canadian Multiculturalism Council (1982-84); and Chairman of the Metro Toronto Jaycee Council. As well, Mr. Meinzer acted as Chair of Innovation Ontario Corp.

Mr. Meinzer is the recipient of the Canadian Confederation Medal and of the Order of Merit of Germany.

Ms. Katherine Jones, M.B.A, C.M.C
President, CEO and Board Member

CCI's founding partner, Katherine Jones oversees the company's business outcomes, promoting excellence in personnel and solutions. She has built cohesive teams and provided leadership, both visionary and organizational, for CCI international projects in Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Trinidad.

Before CCI, Ms. Jones managed capital spending on technology and facilities for the Ontario Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation, and re-engineered environments and automation for Toronto's Sunnybrook hospital.

She is adept at creating win-win partnerships between the private and public sectors, to support her passionate belief that high-quality healthcare should be accessible to everyone.

Ms. Jones has a Master in Business Administration from the University of Toronto.

Dr. Philip Lapp, P.Eng
Board Member

Dr. Philip Lapp is currently President of Philip A. Lapp Limited. Dr. Lapp was the former Senior Vice President and Director of Spar Aerospace Limited and is the recipient of numerous awards, medals and distinctions for his work. He is recognized internationally and has been appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Dr. Lapp holds engineering degrees from the University of Toronto ( Bachelors in Engineering Physics) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Masters and Doctoral degrees). He was awarded Honorary Doctoral degrees from McMaster University and York University.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the Canadian Academy of Engineering, the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute and Ryerson University.

He has been awarded the Gold Medal from the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario, the Centennial Medal and the Golden Jubilee Medal.

He currently sits on five Boards of which he chairs three.

Dr. William Orovan, BSc, MBA, MD, FRCS(C), FACS
Board Member

Dr. William Orovan is a graduate of the McMaster University Faculty of Health Sciences obtaining his MD in 1975. He has been a member of the Faculty since 1981 and is currently the Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery. He acted as Interim Dean and Vice-President for the Faculty of Health Sciences, McMaster University from December 2000 until June 2001. In addition to his academic and clinical duties Dr. Orovan is the Superintendent of the Don Mills Surgical Unit, a 20 bed private hospital and surgical clinic operating in Toronto, Ontario.

Dr. Orovan also received his Bachelor of Science Degree at McMaster University and his Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Queen’s University. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (1980), a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Board of Urology .

Dr. Orovan has held various administrative positions within St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton, Ontario including twelve years as Chief of the Department of Surgery and four years as Chief of the Medical Staff. Dr. Orovan served on the Board of the Ontario Medical Association for eight years and was President of the Association in 1999. He has also served as member of the Board of the Canadian Medical Association.

In 1995, Dr. Orovan was elected Chief Negotiator of the OMA where he held the position until 2000. In 1996, he was appointed Co-Chair of the Physician Services Committee for the Ontario Medical Association until April 2001, when he completed his term. He was the Chair of the Provincial Working Group on financing of Academic Health Science Centres. As well he was a member of the Arbitration Board which adjudicated the dispute between the doctors of British Columbia and the Provincial Government.

Dr. Orovan has a longstanding interest in public policy issues pertaining to health care. He has spoken widely on issues of health care delivery, its organization, funding, and future directions both provincially, nationally and internationally. He is active in community service organizations and is a past Chair of the Board of the Hamilton Community Foundation. He was appointed to the Provincial Task Force on Competitiveness, Productivity and Economic Progress. He previously served as a Board Director for Smart Systems for Health Agency. Currently he is a member of the Board of Alegro Health Corporation and Comprehensive Care International. He has been recognized by both medical and non-medical organizations for his contributions to the community.

Lynda Cranston, MSc.
Board Member

Ms. Lynda Cranston is the President & CEO of the Provincial Health Services Authority in British Columbia. Previously, Ms. Cranston was the Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Blood Services (CBS) and, previous to that, President & CEO of Children's and Women's Health Centre of British Columbia.

Ms. Cranston sits on the board of the Association of Canadian Academic Healthcare Organizations, the Canadian Healthcare Association, Comprehensive Care International, the Canadian Genetics Disease Network, and the Health Employers Association of BC.

A member of the Premier's Advisory Council on Health, Alberta, and the Faculty of Health Sciences Advisory Committee, University of Ottawa, Lynda received the British Columbia Business Award from the UBC Commerce Graduate Society. Ms. Cranston has received numerous other distinctive awards including the 125th Anniversary of Confederation Commemorative Medal for Community Contributions, the Vancouver YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Management and the Professions, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, and Canada’s Most Powerful Women – Top 100™ Award.

Ms. Cranston holds a Masters in Science and has attended the Executive Program at Harvard University.

Dr. Ian Kyer, L.L.B., Ph.D., M.A.
Board Member

C. Ian Kyer is a partner in the national firm of Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP and serves as the Director of the Information & Technology Law practice group. He practices corporate commercial law with an emphasis on information technology and telecom related transactions.

Ian, who has both a law degree and a doctorate in medieval history from the University of Toronto, was the founder and first President of the Canadian IT Law Association and is a Life Member and past President of the Washington D.C. based Computer Law Association, Inc. The Canadian Legal LEXPERT Directory (see www.lexpert.ca) has stated that Ian is one of a small group of “leading Toronto lawyers in this practice area with strong national reputations for the sophistication of their work”

Ian is a member of the advisory board of the International Computer Lawyer, the International Journal of Law and Information Technology (U.K.), the Computer Law & Security Report (UK), the Computer Law Strategist (U.S.A.) and the Computer Law & Tax Reporter (U.S.A.). He has organized computer law conferences in Canada, the United States, Europe, Latin America and Australia and has written and spoken extensively on computer-related legal issues.

In his spare time, he has co-authored The Fiercest Debate, about the history of legal education in Ontario, and Kyer and Fecenko on Computer-Related Agreements: A Practical Guide, a Canadian negotiating and drafting guide for computer contracts (2nd edition July, 1997). He is currently working on a history of his law firm.

Ms. Janet Griffin, M.B.A, BSc.
Board Member

Janet Griffin joined the Board of Comprehensive Care International in 2003 and currently serves on the Audit Committee.

Janet has over 16 years in the financial services sector, most recently with BMO Nesbitt Burns. Until 2004, she was responsible for the implementation and ongoing management of the Canadian and U.S. Employee Co- Investment Funds. She continues to serve on the investment committees of these funds.

She had served the firm in several capacities in her tenure, including as a relationship manager providing capital raising and advisory services to clients in the communications, technology and biotechnology sectors and in internal strategic planning and project management. In this role she oversaw the restructuring that resulted in the integration of the corporate banking business of BMO with the investment bank of the former Nesbitt Burns.

Janet has extensive volunteer experience particularly with young people. She currently serves as a member of both the board of directors and the Executive Committee and as Chair of the Grants committee of ProAction Cops and Kids, a charity which supports programming for at risk youth delivered through the volunteer efforts of members of the Toronto Police Service. She joined ProAction’s board in 2003. Janet served on the Board of Women in Capital Markets (WCM) 1998 - 2002, chairing the Education & Outreach Committee, which developed programs to encourage young women to further their studies in Mathematics for opportunities in the Capital Markets field. She was also chair of the Finance Committee of the Board of Women in Motion, a not for profit venture dedicated to fostering career success for young women and youth at- risk.

Janet has a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) degrees from the University of Western Ontario.


CCI OFFICERS


Ron Price, CMA
Vice President of Corporate Services

Ron Price is the Vice President of Corporate Services for CCI. As the leader of Corporate Services, Ron is accountable for driving the administration of finance, human resources, operations, legal affairs and information technology. Ron is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) with over 18 years of professional experience. For the past eight years he has held progressively senior leadership roles that encompass both financial and operational accountabilities, as well as strategic planning. Recent highlights of Ron’s career include the development of key management reporting systems, a web-based e-commerce system, mergers, acquisitions and numerous financing activities.


Brian Donaldson

Vice President of Sales and Marketing

Mr. Donaldson is a senior sales and marketing executive with over 20 years experience growing market share and developing new markets in a variety of progressive positions in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries. Working with the CCI Senior Management Team, Mr. Donaldson is responsible for designing and overseeing the execution of strategies to support CCI’s continued growth and expansion across all business lines including healthcare facilities development, clinical program design, and the CCI Equipment Plus® service. He also shares in CCI’s commitment to the core values of integrity, trust, innovation and promise of excellence.

Prior to CCI, Mr. Donaldson spearheaded sales and marketing strategies at Can-Ross Environmental Services Limited. He also directed sales and marketing initiatives for Maxxim Medical Canada Limited and Becton Dickinson Canada Inc., both leading providers of medical supplies, devices, equipment, and diagnostics products. His proven track record and his ability to align service offerings with the needs of clients and partners, has allowed him to develop strong, effective relationships within domestic and international healthcare communities.

Jarvis L. Hoult, B.A., M.H.A., CHE
Vice President of Projects

Jarvis Hoult is the Vice President of Projects at CCI. Mr. Hoult is a senior healthcare executive with 30 years experience creating profound change within the global healthcare arena. Mr. Hoult is responsible for designing and overseeing the execution of strategies to support CCI’s growing international client base, and ensuring success in the knowledge transfer of healthcare practices and healthcare technology.

After 20 years in senior management positions at Canadian hospitals including British Columbia’s Children’s Hospital, he has held key leadership positions for the last 12 years in large tertiary hospitals in the Middle East, including the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, where he initiated international partnerships between hospitals in the Middle East and North America, Saudi Arabian National Guard (King Fahad National Guard Hospital) where he coordinated the organizational restructuring and development of the corporate regionalization of all patient care programs, and the Hamad General Hospital, where he led the hospital through an organizational renewal project.

 

CCI’s Professional Advisory Committee:

The CCI Senior Management team and staff are further supported by the CCI Professional Advisory Committee (PAC). PAC promotes excellence in the delivery of the clinical aspects of CCI projects by providing strategic advice in the planning and implementation of clinical project applications and overseeing the quality monitoring of clinical deliverables. The PAC represents a large number of professional interests and disciplines, and is made up of senior healthcare leaders highly respected in their field. This group recognizes the importance of the cumulative efforts of scientific contributions to the mission of CCI. The committee functions in a resource and advisory capacity to assist in development, coordination, and evaluation of activities related to delivery of healthcare. They provide a deeper understanding of the forces—largely in the provider sector—driving industry change, and advocate for the implementation and evaluation of high quality, culturally-competent, delivery of health services capable of meeting the dynamic and diverse needs of all CCI clients.

CCI Professional Advisory Committee is comprised of the following exceptional members:

Dr. William Orovan - BSc, MBA, MD, FRCS(C), FACS. Dr. Orovan is a CCI Board Member, and Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery; St. Joseph’s Hospital (Hamilton, Ontario).

Dr. Karima Velji, PhD. RN, MSc, AOCN. Dr. Velji is Vice President of Patient Care and Chief Nursing Executive at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute and Assistant Professor of Nursing at University of Toronto.

Dr. Carol Anne Sawka – MD, FRCPC. Dr. Sawka is the Provincial VP of Clinical Programs at Cancer Care Ontario.

Dr. Julian Dobranowski - MD, FRCPC
. Dr. Dobrnowski is the Associate Clinical Professor at McMaster University, Faculty of Health Sciences and the Medical Director - Imaging Research Centre, at McMaster University.

Dr. Gerald Rowland - BSc, MD
. Dr.Rowland practices general medicine at the Tillsonburg Medical Clinic, and the Department of Family Practice at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital.
